Research

My research focuses primarily on metacognitive theory and therapy for addictive behaviours. The general strategy is to: (1) identify the core metacognitive mechanisms in addictive behaviours; (2) construct metacognitive theoretical accounts which explain why these behaviours do not self-correct; (3) develop specialized metacognitive treatments which aim to reverse the maintaining factors; and (4) test the efficacy of these treatments.

Other areas of research include: (1) modelling motivational, cognitive and affective predictors of approaches to studying; and (2) the nature and treatment of procrastinatory behaviour.
